This can happen to your photo files when the photo is taken with your camera (usually a cell phone) flipped horizontally. The easiest way to fix photo orientation is in the Photos app. Check out this article to see how to upload photos.
Using a computer, the quickest way reset the orientation of the photo is to open the file in another program, such as PowerPoint, Word, or even Microsoft Paint.
In Microsoft PowerPoint or Word:
Open the file in a blank presentation or document and note the arrow on the edge of the photo. This is what is currently recognized as the “top” of the photo, which determines how it will upload to the photo gallery.
2. To change the “top” of the photo, hold and drag the arrow to rotate the photo to the desired orientation. The arrow is now on the side, but the photo is in the correct position.
3. Next, right-click on the photo and select Save as Picture from the available actions. Save your new file.
If you decide to use Microsoft Paint instead:
Open the photo in Paint and click Rotate in the toolbar. Select the rotation you need in order to correct the orientation of the photo. For example, this photo needs to be rotated left 90°.
2. Complete the rotation and save the photo by clicking File then Save in the upper-left corner.
3. Return to the Photos page, click +Add Photos, and select your updated photo file. The photo is fixed.
