How to activate EMIS Partner API on your Anima desktop application

Updated this week

Post June 5th 2025 - EMIS users will need to reconnect EMIS and Anima to benefit from upgraded performance, functionality & speed. Here is the step-by-step guide on how to reconnect.

Please note the steps carried out inside of the EMAS Manager should only be completed once by a Practice administrator with access to EMAS.

1. Reset the Anima partner API in EMIS

Open EMIS. Click the globe icon → System ToolsEMAS Manager

In Partner API (bottom‑left) select Anima, click Deactivate, then immediately Reactivate so you see green ticks.

2. Update EMIS user credentials

Still in EMAS, make sure that the Partner API called 'Anima' is highlighted in blue before then click Edit Users.

For each user that will access Anima, find them in the list and then choose Change Password.

In the pop-up window, set a password you will remember (using your normal EMIS password or a generic password will be accepted). Then click OK and close the window.

Open Login Access (next to Edit Users)

For every user in the User list that will access Anima, please ensure both access boxes are ticked. Click OK and close EMIS.

3. Re-connect Anima with EMIS

NOTE: Every user will need to complete this step on their Anima Account

In Anima, click on Settings (bottom left corner) → User Settings. You’ll see a new field labeled EHR password; enter your EMIS password. Scroll to click Save Changes, then hit Test to verify you get a success message. Scroll down to save again.

4. Restart Anima to apply changes

Close Anima completely. Then launch the application again, log in, and you're all set!

Tip: a quick performance check:

  • Click Create RequestSearch by name in EMIS and look up any patient; the result should return in under five seconds.

  • Open any request and confirm the patient panel loads instantly.

  • Use the Open in EMIS icon (box with arrow in top right corner) to ensure the patient launches immediately inside EMIS.
