How to mark element parameters to be treated as DOE factors

Updated over a year ago

When planning a DOE, often the factors that you are defining are the liquids that contribute to a mixture or the volume of that mixture. These factors will map to specific parameters in your workflows at the various stages where you want those liquids to be used. In Synthace, you can mark up your workflow to identify which parameters in your elements should have factors allocated to them.

In this tutorial you will learn:

  • how to tell Synthace which of your element parameters are associated with your DOE factors, before you start defining them.

How to mark an element parameter to be a DOE factor

  1. Build a workflow that defines a set of liquids and provides those liquids to a Make Mixtures or a Mix Onto element.

  2. Click the DOE button in the top centre of the builder, to switch the workflow builder into DOE Mode.

Note: only the elements that can have DOE factors applied to their parameters will be interactive and display in colour. If the workflow has not already been added to a Synthace experiment you will be prompted to do so before being able to enter DOE mode.

  3. Select the Make Mixtures or Mix Onto element to open the element instance panel on the right. Unlike in build mode, the only parameters that appear are the ones to which you can apply a DOE factor.

  4. Toggle on the parameters you want to investigate as DOE factors (Mixture Compositions, Diluent to Use, or Final Target Volume).

  5. Your parameters are now marked and you can define your DOE factors by clicking the Design button, on the top right, or by clicking the button No Factor, next to each toggle.

  6. Once your factors are defined, the DOE symbol on the element turns to purple, allowing you to quickly identify which elements have DOE factors defined.

That’s it, so easy!
