Explains how User Tags are used for reporting and analytics.

Answer

User Tags are key:value metadata added to user records in the ANVL Admin Portal. They are used for reporting and analytics only.

User Tags help you organize and filter users in reporting by attributes such as:

  • job title

  • department

  • business unit

  • other reporting classifications your organization wants to track

User Tags do not affect:

  • user access

  • permissions

  • Group membership

  • workflow availability

  • application behavior

They are best used when you want to improve filtering, segmentation, and rollups in ANVL or Power BI without changing how the user functions in the system.

Steps

  1. Open ANVL Insights.

  2. Select Welcome, [Your Name].

  3. Select Admin Portal.

  4. Open User Management.

  5. Locate the user you want to review or update.

  6. Review the user’s existing Tags.

  7. Standardize the tag format before making changes.

  8. Apply tags consistently through:

    • Bulk User Creation

    • Bulk Update Users

    • in-line edits in the Admin Portal

  9. Confirm your reporting tools are configured to use the tag values you care about.

  10. Validate report filters to make sure the tags appear and group users correctly.

Key rules

  • Tags are metadata only.

  • Tags do not control access.

  • Tags do not affect workflow behavior.

  • The Job Title tag is commonly used in standard Power BI reporting.

Example of a User tag using the 'Job Title' tag

Standard Power BI reports support filtering by Job Title, which is populated from the User Job Title tag.

Important notes

  • Do not use User Tags to manage permissions or Group access.

  • Keep spelling and formatting consistent across users.

  • If tag values are inconsistent, reporting filters and rollups may become unreliable.

  • User Tags are most useful when your reporting strategy is defined before you start applying them widely.
