As of the end of December 2021, we started to remove keywords (“low quality keywords”) that have no ASO value, to improve our data quality and to help our customers focus on keywords that matter for their app marketing efforts. This has been fully rolled out mid-January 2022, and will be repeated on a regular basis.

What can I expect?

It might look like you are ranking on fewer keywords. Don't worry, this is not actually the case, we are just not displaying “low quality keywords” any more. Since most affected features have disabled the “Include low search volume” filter anyway, the impact should be minimal.

What is a “low quality keyword”?

Keyword is the search term that people use to find new apps in the app stores. There are highly popular and highly unpopular keywords. The latter are considered as "low quality" ones because there is an insignificant amount of users searching for them in the app stores. That means, even if your app is ranking high for these keywords, it won’t get any impressions. In App Radar, these keywords are represented with the search volume of 5, and you shouldn't include them in your keyword strategy.

Additionally, there exist also search terms with special characters, like "snapchat++" or "+whatsapp". These are considered as low quality keywords as well. Tracking their rankings is irrelevant for your app marketing analytics because you'll be ranking for the original keyword without the special characters.

Note: iOS Search Ads Popularity Score is where we get our Search Volume from.

Keywords that actually include special characters are saved and will not be deleted in the keyword clean-up, e.g. “c++”, “disney+”.

Why do I still see low search volume keywords?

It might occasionally happen that you see under your rankings a low quality keyword. This error margin happens because App Radar has tens of thousands of users adding new keywords to their tracking every day in various countries. As a result, our keyword database is a continuously growing and evolving mechanism.

Note: Data quality and improvements of keyword database is one of the core focuses for App Radar in 2022.

Can I get deleted keywords back?

Yes, you can just add them again under Keywords Tracking, but we advise against this as this reduces the quality again for you and other users.
