In 2015 Microsoft released their Edge internet browser to replace Internet Explorer. Microsoft has been slow to entirely remove security and support updates from Internet Explorer, but that time is soon coming. In 2021 Internet Explorer will no longer be supported by Microsoft. This means that security flaws may not be fixed and many programs and systems you enjoy today will not work while using Internet Explorer. For security reasons, Apploi will not be able to support Internet Explorer after April 1, 2021.

In order to avoid any interruptions to business and personal use of the internet we very strongly encourage you to transition to another browser effective immediately. Our favorite browser is Chrome, but Firefox and Edge are both comparable alternatives.

Why The Change?

Internet Explorer is 25 years old, and since it first came out computers and the internet have drastically changed. Over the years various updates have been made to Internet Explorer, but Microsoft has reached a point where simple updates are no longer enough to fix an outdated system. Microsoft launched Edge in 2015 to replace Internet Explorer with a much faster and more secure browser. You can read more about this and learn some tips on getting started in Edge direct from Microsoft here.

What If My Company Requires Internet Explorer Use?

Many companies have already transitioned away from Internet Explorer and we strongly advise you to reach out to your IT team to ensure they have a plan in place. Microsoft is aware of the burden a system transition can have on companies and to assist your team Microsoft has built tools into Edge that will allow Internet Explorer based systems to still function. More information on their compatibility tools can be found here.

Does This Only Impact Business Use?

No. This change will also impact your personal use of Internet Explorer and we strongly encourage you to download and start using Chrome, Firefox or Edge immediately. If you have only used Internet Explorer in the past these other browsers will function in much the same way. The icons and buttons may be in a different area, but overall the way you use the browser will be extremely similar.

Will I Lose Any Data or Bookmarks When I Switch?

You can log into most systems, Apploi included, from any supported browser at any time. All of your jobs, applicants, and data in Apploi will still be accessible without changes. Your saved bookmarks, browsing history, and other browser related data can typically be transferred out of Internet Explorer and into your new browser of choice. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge all provide guidance on doing this.

What If I Have Other Questions or Difficulty?

We do understand that transitioning away from systems you are familiar with can be stressful. Your company IT team may be able to provide guidance on their recommended browser and may already have a transition plan in place. If you still have questions or difficulty adjusting to a new browser please reach out to your Apploi CSM for assistance.
