π± Setting Up Klaviyo SMS for Appstle Subscription Events
Email is only half the conversation. A text message lands on the screen your subscribers check most β making SMS ideal for time-sensitive moments like an upcoming order, a pause about to end, or a renewal worth a gentle reminder.
With Appstle and Klaviyo connected, any subscription event in Appstle can trigger an SMS in Klaviyo β complete with a personalized link that takes each customer straight to their own subscription.
π‘ Why Send SMS Through Klaviyo
Reach subscribers where they respond fastest β short, timely messages for the moments that matter most.
Every Appstle event is available β upcoming orders, cancellations, pauses, and more can each trigger their own message.
Personalized for every subscriber β the same variables you use in Appstle emails work in SMS, including a direct link to their subscription.
Fewer support requests β customers manage their own subscription in a single tap, instead of writing in.
β Before You Begin
You'll need:
Klaviyo connected to Appstle Subscriptions (More > App Integrations). See the Klaviyo guide if you haven't connected it yet.
SMS enabled and configured in your Klaviyo account.
Appstle subscription events available in your Klaviyo account.
π Step 1: Confirm SMS Opt-In
SMS only reaches subscribers who have agreed to receive it, so start here. Open the customer's profile in Klaviyo and confirm they have opted in to SMS β Klaviyo delivers text messages only to subscribers who have given SMS consent.
βοΈ Step 2: Create the SMS Flow in Klaviyo
Next, choose the subscription moment you want to message on:
In Klaviyo, go to Flows and create a new flow.
Set the trigger to the Appstle event you want to send an SMS for β for example, Next Order Date Event from Appstle.
Save the trigger.
π‘ All Appstle subscription event triggers work with SMS β choose whichever event fits your use case.
π¬ Step 3: Write Your Text Message
Now compose what your subscriber will receive. Keep it short and clear β SMS works best when the message and the next step are obvious at a glance.
Drag a Text Message action below the trigger.
Open it and write your SMS content β for example, Click below to manage your subscription.
π Step 4: Add the Manage Subscription Link
This is what turns a notification into an action. Every variable supported in Appstle's email notifications is also supported in SMS β including a link that opens each customer's own subscription.
In the message editor, click Properties, then All properties.
Search for the manage subscription button property to find the button URL.
Click the variable to copy it, then paste it into your message.
The variable looks like this:
{{ event.manageSubscriptionLink|default:'' }}
β
π‘ Klaviyo also offers a shorten URL option β useful for keeping messages within SMS length limits.
π§ͺ Step 5: Preview and Go Live
Use the preview to confirm the variables populate correctly and the message reads as expected.
Set the flow to Live.
That's it β the SMS now sends automatically whenever the selected Appstle event occurs, with no further work on your side.
β¨ What Your Customer Sees
The customer receives your message on their phone, taps the link, and lands directly on their own subscription page β where they can review or make changes in seconds, without signing in or contacting support.
