What this video covers
This 4-minute video walks through the Results tab of the Failed Payment Recovery page, where you can see how well failed payments are being recovered.
In short
Every number counts each order once: one subscription's order and every attempt to charge it.
Retry insights suggests changes based on your own last 90 days. It stays empty until enough retries have succeeded.
Payment recovery analytics has a date range (last 30 days, last 90 days or last 12 months), a Compare to previous period option, and six filters: Recovery status, Attempt count, Failure reason, Subscription status, Product or variant, and Selling plan.
Six numbers sum up the period: Attempted revenue, First-attempt success, Recovered revenue, Still recovering, Lost revenue and Recovery rate.
Four breakdowns show where payments end up: Recovery funnel, Retry success by attempt, Failure reasons and Recovery activity.
Recent failed payments lists the latest failed orders that match your filters, with each order's recovery status. Export emails you every matching order as a CSV file.
Good to know
First-attempt success counts attempts, not revenue. It's the number of first attempts that succeeded divided by all first attempts.
Recovery rate only looks at payments that failed. It's the failed orders paid after a retry, out of all failed orders, including those still being retried.
Export appears once there's a failed order to list. It's greyed out for users who can't export data. The account owner and staff with full access can export, and the file is emailed to an address on your Merchant Notifications Email list in Shop Settings.
Some labels have changed since the video was recorded: Daily recovery activity is now Recovery activity, and Recent failed payments now shows one row per failed order with its recovery status.
