Connect an AI Assistant to Appstle Subscriptions Using MCP

Set up MCP for ChatGPT, Claude, or another compatible AI assistant to access your store’s subscription analytics.

Use MCP to connect an AI assistant to Appstle Subscriptions and ask questions about your store’s subscription performance and turn the results into summaries or charts. The assistant connects through MCP, a standard for connecting AI tools to other services, and uses secure OAuth browser approval.

The connection provides read-only, aggregate analytics. It cannot change subscriptions, charge customers, or retrieve individual customer and subscription records. You do not need to create an Appstle API key.

Before You Start

Before connecting your AI assistant to Appstle Subscriptions, make sure you have completed the following:

  • Confirm your Appstle setup: Contact Appstle Support to verify that MCP is enabled for your Shopify store and that your AI assistant is configured correctly.

  • Check your AI assistant’s compatibility: Use an assistant that supports remote MCP connections with OAuth authentication. Setup steps may vary depending on your assistant and workspace settings. If custom connections are unavailable, contact your workspace administrator.

  • Sign in to Shopify: Log in to Shopify and select the store you want to connect to Appstle. Make sure you can access Appstle Subscriptions in that store.

  • Each connection belongs to one Shopify store: If you manage multiple stores, each store needs its own approval. Approving one store does not authorize your other stores.

Step 1: Add a Custom Connection

Open your AI assistant’s Apps, Integrations, or Connectors settings and select the option to add a custom or remote MCP server. If Appstle Support has already helped you set up the Appstle Subscriptions connection, open the existing connection instead of creating a duplicate.

Step 2: Enter the Connection Details

  • Name: Appstle Subscriptions. Add a store nickname if that helps distinguish your connections.

  • MCP server URL: https://subscription-admin.appstle.com/mcp

  • Authentication: OAuth.

Let the assistant discover the connection settings automatically if it offers that option. Review the information shown and start the connection. If discovery fails or the assistant requires manual credentials, contact Appstle Support for the correct setup. Do not paste an API key, password, or access token into a chat.

ChatGPT

  1. Open Plugins and choose Add custom MCP server.

  2. Enter the Appstle name and server URL above, then select OAuth.

  3. If ChatGPT automatically selects CIMD, keep that setting. No client secret is needed for this setup.

  4. Create the app and choose its connection option, then continue with Step 3 below.

ChatGPT’s labels may vary by account.

Claude

  1. Open Customize > Connectors and add a custom connector. Depending on your interface, use + Add > Add custom connector or Add > Custom > Web.

  2. Enter the Appstle name and server URL above, then continue.

  3. Review the detected OAuth settings. Choose Sign in now and, when offered, Claude’s published identity for the OAuth client.

  4. Save the connector and start its sign-in flow. Then continue with Step 3 below.

If your organization manages connectors, an administrator may need to add the connector first. Find the added connector and connect it to your own store. See Claude’s custom connector instructions for its current interface.

Other AI Assistants and Agents

Choose a remote MCP connection, enter the same Appstle server URL, and use OAuth to sign in. Your agent must support browser-based OAuth for a remote server; a local-only MCP configuration is not sufficient.

Follow that agent’s connection controls, then continue with Step 3. If it asks for credentials or rejects the connection, ask Appstle Support to confirm the correct setup for that agent.

Step 3: Check and Approve the Store

Before starting, select the intended store in Shopify Admin in the browser you will use for sign-in. Then start the connection from your own account in your AI assistant.

Only continue if you started the connection yourself within the last few minutes. If someone sent you an approval link, close it and start from your own assistant instead.

The browser will open Appstle’s approval page in Shopify.

Check the Shopify store domain on the Appstle approval page. It should match the intended your-store.myshopify.com address. You will check the requesting assistant on the WorkOS consent screen in the next step.

If the wrong store appears, cancel and restart the connection from the intended assistant after selecting the correct store in Shopify. Do not switch stores in the middle of the approval flow.

Choose Continue on the Appstle approval page.

Step 4: Finish Connecting

Appstle uses WorkOS for this secure connection. On the WorkOS consent screen, review the requesting app and the destination shown under After allowing access, you will be redirected to.

An app name or logo alone does not prove who will receive access. If the destination or a warning is unexpected, cancel and contact Appstle Support. Even a familiar domain does not confirm that the requesting assistant account is yours—only approve a connection you started from your own account.

If everything matches your setup, choose Allow access, return to your assistant, and finish the connection.

Approving access in Appstle is only one step. Finish the WorkOS consent and your assistant’s setup, then ask your first question to confirm that the connection works. If an approval expires before you complete setup, start a fresh connection from your assistant.

Step 5: Ask Your First Question

Start a conversation and select or enable the Appstle connection using your assistant’s app or tool picker. Ask it to use Appstle for the answer.

For example:

Use Appstle Subscriptions to summarize my subscription revenue for the last 30 completed days. Include the date range, timezone, currency, and any data limitations.

Example: Analysis Response from ChatGPT

Your assistant may ask for permission to run a read-only tool. Review the request and allow it to retrieve the report.

In ChatGPT: Open your Appstle app and choose Try in chat, or select it from the chat’s app picker.

In Claude: Open the chat’s + menu, choose Connectors, and enable Appstle for the conversation. Then send your question.

Reports You Can Ask For

  • Summary: “Summarize subscription revenue and current active subscribers.”

  • Revenue: “Show daily subscription revenue for last month as a chart.”

  • Products: “Show the top 10 products by subscription revenue for last month, including their share of revenue.”

  • Subscribers: “Show new and churned subscribers for last month.”

  • Payments: “Show recovered, under-recovery, and lost payment groups for last month.”

  • Upcoming orders: “Estimate scheduled subscription revenue for the next 7 days, starting tomorrow.”

How to Read the Results

  • Check the returned date range, store timezone, and currency. Reports use completed days. Summary, revenue, and subscriber reports support up to 90 days; product and payment reports support up to 31 days. Large datasets may require a shorter period.

  • Upcoming orders are an estimate, not guaranteed revenue. Choose a horizon of 1, 7, 30, or 90 days. The default is 7 days.

  • Product revenue is an estimated allocation using current subscription lines. It combines variants and excludes initial orders, so it is not an exact historical product-sales report. Product rankings show up to 25 products.

  • Active subscriber counts describe the current state. Historical churn rate is unavailable. Revenue is not net of refunds.

  • Unavailable is not zero. Keep missing amounts and the report’s limitations visible in summaries and charts. Shorten the period if your assistant reports that the requested range is too large.

Step 6: Connect Another Store

Confirm the second store’s connection setup with Appstle Support. In Shopify, select that store before starting. In your assistant, use its option to add another account or connection, then repeat the approval steps and check the Shopify domain carefully. Each store requires a separate approval.

In ChatGPT: Open your Appstle app, go to Connected accounts, and choose Connect another account.

Step 7: Disconnect or Reconnect

Open Appstle Subscriptions in the store you want to disconnect, then open its MCP connection-management page. Ask Appstle Support for this page if it is not visible in your settings.

Find the connection you want to remove, choose Disconnect, and then confirm Disconnect connection. The connection will show Disconnected.

This stops access through that connection. Other connections, including separate connections from the same assistant or to other stores, are unaffected. To use the disconnected connection again, complete a fresh approval.

To reconnect, start from the Appstle connection in your assistant and repeat the Shopify and WorkOS approval steps. The assistant may resume a previously blocked report after reconnection.

Need Help?

  • Connection unavailable: Ask Appstle Support to confirm your store connection and assistant setup. Repeating the login process does not enable the feature.

  • Connection expired or disconnected: Reconnect and finish both browser approval steps.

  • No data or an unavailable amount: Confirm the period and review the limitations. Missing data should not be replaced with zero.

  • Too many requests: Wait for the suggested retry time and run fewer reports at once.

Include your Shopify store domain, assistant name, the step or report that failed, the date range, and a screenshot without private information.

Never send passwords, access tokens, or API keys.
