Marking specific collection pages as 'Member' only, in your Shopify store

Updated over 3 months ago

Overview

While offering special discounts to 'Members' only is a great perk to make Memberships and Loyalty programs attractive with, elements that bring exclusivity, such as exclusive access to certain portions of your store, can also build demand for your Memberships, if tactically implemented.

Appstle Memberships offers this perk, through which you can hide some of your collection pages from non-members and make it members only. You can achieve that by simply following some of the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Create a Membership Plan.

To set Membership perks, first you'll need to have created a membership plan. You can view the detailed process for creating a membership plan here.

Step 2: Select the Membership Perk.

After creating the membership plan, click on Membership perks as shown in the screenshot below:

In Membership perks, select the 'Limit access to the collection pages' from the dropdown.

Step 3: Pick the selector for the collection page.

A selector of the collection page is required to hide the collection page. You can find this, by inspecting the elements of the collection page. If you are not comfortable with selectors, please feel free to contact our 24x7x365 support team, and they will help you out.

Tip: For most Shopify stores, the common selector of the collection page is #MainContent. You can give this a try. However, collection pages that are created using a third-party app or custom-developed may have different selectors.

Once you have the selector, simply paste the selector as shown in the screenshot, and customize the block message to suit your needs.

Step 4: Choose the restriction method

Appstle Memberships provides two methods for the restriction:
1) Restriction via URL
2) Restriction via product attribute

  1. Restriction via URL

  • If you want to hide a specific collection page, you need to select "Exact" from the "Path match type URL." This means that the collection page that exactly matches the URL entered in the URL Path will be hidden.

NOTE: You just need to copy the last part of the URL, i.e. the path after your shop name ends!

Then, paste the URL and save the plan. With this, you are good to go.

If you want to hide multiple collection pages that meet a specific criteria (example: all categories of products that were introduced less than a week ago!), select "contains" from the dropdown, instead of "exact". This way, you can hide all pages that have the term in the URL from non-members.

2. Restriction via product attributes.

Another method to restrict collection pages is through product attributes. In this method, collection pages will be visible to non-members as well but once they click on any product pages, a block message will appear.

Through this method, you can hide specific product pages by their tag, vendor collection, or by product type.

  • Hiding the product page by the product tag.

To hide a specific product, you need to paste the tag into the given field. You will find the tag of the product from the Shopify admin.

Once this is done, the add-to-cart button for the products having this tag will be hidden from non-members.

You can also restrict non-members from purchasing specific products, defined by vendor name or by product type. You will find both the values (vendor name and product type) in the Shopify product section.

Now, Simply copy and paste the value into the value fields.

After completing the above steps and hitting 'save', only members will be able to see the specific collection pages or specific products on the collection pages in your store.

NOTE: Members must be logged in with the email accounts or user IDs with which they bought the membership to your store, in order to see the product page.
