Earn Rule - Review Rules

With these earn rules, your customers can leave reviews on select review sites to earn loyalty points.

All of the review rules are configured almost identically from one another, so we will showcase one example here, and you can extrapolate the information here and apply it to any others you are looking to use.


To set up, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to the Earn Rewards section.

  2. Click on Add Ways to Earn

  3. Under Product Reviews, select your preferred review app and click on

    Create Rule.

  4. In the Rule Name section, name the Earn Rule.

  5. For Reward Type, select whether customers will earn Points or Store Credits.

  6. For Reward Amount, enter the number of points or credits a customer will receive once the conditions are met. Decimal values are also supported.

  7. Auto Approval Days can be set if you wish to give yourself time to approve customers' loyalty points upon completing the earn rules.

    1. If you do not manually approve the points yourself during the interval you set, after it passes, the points will automatically be assigned to the customers' accounts.

    2. Leave 0 in this field if you want the points to be assigned to customer accounts immediately.

  8. Click the checkbox for Activity Frequency Limits if you want to limit how many times a customer can complete this earn rule per given interval of time (days, weeks, months, years, or lifetime).

  9. The next two sections, Customer Eligibility & Customer Restrictions, are optional to complete. You can add customer tags (obtainable from the Customers section of your Shopify Admin), order tags, product tags, etc.
    to deny certain subsets of your customer base from taking advantage of this earn rule (ex: New Customers, Wholesale Customers, etc.).

  10. For Customer Facing Label, describe the earn rule with a brief explanation on how points can be earned.

  11. For Customer Facing Icon, provide the URL of an icon or image, or leave it blank to use the rule-based global icon from the widget settings or the default image.

  12. For the Notification Banner Message, you can input a message that customers will get when they get their points.

  13. In Forward Emails, enter your business email address to receive customer reviews whenever they are submitted.

  14. In the Call to Action URL, enter the URL of your business's social media page to be liked/followed in the field below.

  15. For Rule Status, set the earn rule as either Active or Disabled.

When you are finished, hit the Finish button.


Important Note:

To enable automation for review-based earn rules, you must complete the additional setup shown in the Email Review Notifications section of the rule. Each review app requires its own email notification configuration.

If this step is not completed, customer reviews will not trigger the loyalty points allocation automatically.


View and Test Your Earn Rules

Go to your storefront and bring up the loyalty widget.

Click on the Ways to Earn section to view the rules you have configured. They will be listed with the point earning parameters you have set.

Earn test points by fulfilling some of these rules.


Use Cases

This rule is all about increasing your store or brand’s repute with positive reviews. If your customers had good experiences with your business, you can use these rules to foster a symbiotic relationship with them; they leave good reviews while you award them loyalty points over regular intervals. The reviews themselves can also be excellent marketing materials as well, as you can use them to encourage more potential customers to conduct business with you.
