Advanced Email Marketing
Updated over 3 months ago

Advanced Email Marketing allows you to build custom automations that help you streamline your business. You can set an action to be automatically executed when a specific condition has been met. Appstle now integrates with Shopify's Marketing Automation. This means you can use Appstle's triggers to automate your email campaigns.

Note: This article covers Appstle's integration with Shopify's Marketing Automations. If you require more information about the Marketing Automation functionality itself, please reference Shopify's documentation here.

You can access Shopify Marketing Automation from Settings > Email Settings > Advanced Email Marketing, then click on the Shopify marketing tools link.

How does Shopify Marketing Automation work?

To create automation in Shopify Marketing Automation, you need to build a workflow using components called triggers, conditions, and actions.

Workflow component

Description

Example

Trigger

A trigger is an event that starts a workflow, and can be something that happens in your store or in an app.

A new subscription contract is created in your store.

Condition

A condition determines whether an action is taken, based on the conditions that you set.

A condition is set to check whether the total amount paid for the subscription is over $200.

Action

An action is a change that's made to your store or in an app if the condition is met.

If the total amount paid for the subscription is over $200, then a tag is added to the account of the subscriber.

How to create automation for subscriptions in Shopify Marketing Automation?

The starting trigger you need to use to create automation for your subscriptions or memberships is "Subscription Created."

This will start a workflow when a customer subscribes to a product in your store.

How does the "Subscription Created" trigger work?

When the "Subscription Created" trigger is activated, the subscription contract data is automatically imported into the workflow from Appstle. That data will contain all of the relevant subscription information (i.e. customer name, subscription status, billing frequency, products, prices, etc.)

The following actions can be used in workflows that start with the Subscription Created trigger:

  • Add customer tags

    Add tags to a customer.

  • Create redirect URL

Automatically send storefront visitors from their visited storefront URL to a new destination.

  • Delete customer

Step-by-Step guide:

  1. In Appstle Subscriptions, navigate to Settings > Email Settings > Advanced Email Marketing, then click Shopify Marketing Automation.

  2. Click Create Automation and then click on Create Custom Automation.

  3. Add the "Subscription Created" Trigger.

  4. Click on the + icon on the trigger card and click on Condition.

  5. Choose the condition that you want.

  6. Click on the + icon on the condition card and add an Action.

  7. Choose the action that you want.

  8. To start the automation, click on Turn on Workflow.

Note: If you exit before activating, Shopify will save the workflow as a draft. You can return to it in the Marketing Automation page, accessible from either your Shopify Admin or from Appstle.

Once your automation is active, click on Automation from your Marketing page to see a summary of it and specific analytics.

Example:

This workflow checks if the 19" Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 Tire is subscribed to. If it is, or is part of, a customer's subscription, they will be sent a marketing email from Shopify.
