In the Loyalty configuration settings of subscription plans, we have added a new toggle for repeating cycles.

If you are offering a Pay As You Go subscription plan, you can use this toggle to make it behave similarly to a prepaid plan, with the right parameters.

For example, if you are offering a 3-month subscription. In the loyalty discount section, you can set the initial discount amount as 0%. Then, set the next two order discounts to be 100%. This way, customers will be charged the full amount on the first order and will receive 100% off on the next 2 recurring orders.

Finally, to set this as a prepaid auto-renew subscription, enter a larger number like 9999 into the Repeating Number of Cycle field so that this subscription can go on indefinitely.

The main difference in configuring your subscription plan this way versus using the prepaid plan type is that in your Shopify Orders tab, a prepaid plan will only register as a single order, with multiple fulfillments tied to that order. With a Pay As You Go plan with this toggle enabled, every fulfillment of the subscription will register as its own separate order.
