With this redeem rule, your customers can redeem their points into store credit in the form of your store's currency to be used for a future purchase(s).
To set up, please follow the instructions below:
Go to Redeem Points.
Click on Create Rule.
Click on the Create Rule button in the Store Credit section.
In the Rule Name section, name your Reward.
In the Cost to Redeem section, please enter the amount of points needed to redeem this reward.
Click the checkbox for Enable Redeem Interval Per Customer if you want to limit how many times a customer can complete this activity rule per given interval of time (days, weeks, months, years, or lifetime).
In Credit Amount, enter a numerical value that will correspond to the amount of credit your customers will receive upon redeeming their points, based on your store's currency.
The next section, Allow and Restrictions, is optional to complete. You can add customer tags (obtainable from the Customers section of your Shopify Admin), order tags, product tags, etc. to allow or deny certain subsets of your customer base from taking advantage of this redeem rule (ex: New Customers, Wholesale Customers, etc.).
For Customer Facing Label, define the message customers will see when they redeem their points.
In Customer Facing Icon, provide the URL of an icon or image, or leave it blank to use the rule-based global icon from the widget settings or the default image.
In Redeem Label, enter a message customers will see in the available reward section after redeeming a reward(s).
For Status, define the rewards program as either Active or Paused.
When you are finished, scroll back up and hit the Save button.
Testing
You can test your new reward in your storefront while logged into an account, simulating a customer.
Fulfill some of your activity rules (ex: visit store, new customer/create account in store, purchase products) to gain loyalty points. Then click on the Ways to Redeem section in the loyalty widget to view the reward.
Click Redeem now to get your store credit. This code can then be applied at checkout towards your purchase(s).
View Redeemed Rewards
From your home page, click on the Customers section.
Select your desired customer ID.
Navigate to the Rewards tab.
Here, you can view all the rewards that this customer redeemed, got refunded, are unused, etc. For unused, if you need to cancel a specific reward for whatever reason, select to do so under the Action column.
Store Credit Usage with Subscriptions
Store credits can be a great way to reward customers, but it's important to understand how they work with subscriptions on Shopify.
Due to current limitations from Shopify, store credits cannot be automatically applied to recurring subscription orders. They can only be used during the initial checkout of a subscription purchase. This applies across all subscription apps on Shopify.
To apply store credit to a subscription:
Customers need to manually redeem their credit during checkout when starting a subscription.
If the credit needs to be applied to an existing subscriber’s future order, it must be done manually by the merchant.
For recurring orders, credits are not auto-applied unless a manual step is taken.
If you’re offering referral rewards or other credit systems, we recommend clearly informing customers about these limitations to avoid any confusion.
As an alternative, you may consider offering discount codes or loyalty points that customers can use toward both one-time and subscription purchases, including recurring orders.
