Ardex Mobile has the capability to upload, play and send videos from your mobile device. To add a new video, you can record it by using the Ardex Mobile app, or the default Camera app on your device. You will need to switch from Photo to Video mode.

Important: If you intend to create and upload videos using Ardex Mobile, first contact Ardex and ensure your database has cloud storage enabled. Video file size can be significant, and uploading videos to your Ardex database can result in a significant increase in database size if cloud storage has not been activated, creating potential for synchronization and technical issues.

Recording Videos Using the Ardex Mobile App

  • Search and select the horse

  • Tap on the 3 little dots/More option on the bottom right hand corner of the screen (beside Main, Notes and Procedures)

  • Select Documents and Images

  • Select Take video OR Choose Video From Library (if you have pre-recorded a video)

  • Once you have recorded the video, or have selected the video from your library, select Low quality

  • The video(s) will then be marked for upload

  • Once you have completed these steps for each horse you wish to upload a video for, go back into the Home screen and select Upload videos at the bottom of the screen, under the Media section.

  • You will see all the videos ready to upload – you can upload and email the owners, or simply upload without emailing to review on your computer.

Further Information

The best part about Ardex Mobile video communications is the execution. The video size and quality will be optimized on upload, the video will be hosted from a secure cloud storage location, and the horse owners receiving the video update will be provided with a unique link to click and play the video, without needing to actually download the video file to their e-mail browser.

Video upload time varies depending on the speed of your internet connection and the length, resolution and frame rate of the video. Once the video has finished uploading, create a new text note for the horse and select the video as an attachment. Please see instructions above for creating and sending text notes with attachments. Ardex Mobile will automatically create a link in the message body to play the video.

Note: Horse owners will generally be very appreciative of some video footage of their racehorses in training from time to time, especially if they can watch the video with a simple mouse click, without downloading any software or video files to their computer.

Data Usage Considerations

If you were to create and send text notes all day long using Ardex Mobile, there would not be a significant drain on your mobile data usage, as text notes use up very little data per transfer. You would actually consume less data doing this than browsing the web on your phone or tablet.

Once you start attaching photos and voice recordings to messages, data usage will increase significantly and you may need to consider increasing your monthly mobile data allowance, or finding a Wi-Fi network you can connect to while working with Ardex Mobile. So long as you are connected to a Wi-Fi network your mobile data allowance should remain unused.

Progress notes with videos attached will generally take up more data than any other type of message, and this should be considered before committing to video communications using Ardex Mobile. Our programmers have put a lot of work into optimising file size for voice, photo and video communications in Ardex Mobile, but data usage for video communications remains a matter for consideration and planning.

Note: They say a picture tells a thousand words. Coincidentally, a medium resolution photo sent by e-mail can result is a message size 1000 times larger than a plain text e-mail. Attaching a medium resolution video to a message may then multiply the message size even further. Always consider your mobile data plan when devising a racing communications strategy.
