Anyone who has worked in the Thoroughbred breeding industry for some time will recognise the importance of registering Thoroughbred horses with the stud book and maintaining proper horse breeding records. This can involve a significant amount of paperwork and form submissions.

Ardex has created the Stud Book Return automated feature to streamline submission of breeding information to the stud book. Learning to use this simple feature can result in significant time savings, and also reduce form completion errors. The Stud Book Return feature is accessed in Ardex via Reporting > Stud Book Return.

To begin with confirm you have the correct breeding season selected, then click Validate. Ardex will indicate which stallions have successful covers registered against them, and also warn you if a Stallion has not been assigned to a Country, which is required by the Stud Book. To assign a Country to a Stallion go to Main > Horses then double click the Stallion and simply enter (select) a Country.

Once all Stallions have been assigned to a Country and any other validation issues are addressed, and you feel confident that breeding procedures are up-to-date and the number of Covers registered against each Stallion is accurate, then click the Create the File button.

Now click View the File to review the Stud Book Return before sending. The file will be in plain text format - the left column is the Stallion, the middle column is the Mare and on the right the Date of Service is reported in numeric format.

We recommend you do not edit this text file directly. If you detect any error, fix the problem in Ardex first, then re-create the Stud Book Return.

Once you are satisfied with the covering results reported, click E-mail the File to send the breeding information to the Stud Book.
