Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an additional security measure that works alongside your password to keep your account and data protected. If your password is ever lost or stolen, MFA will prevent that password from being used to access your account. MFA can be enabled either as a single user or enabled as a department-wide policy for all users. This article will explain how to enable MFA for your ARI account as a single user.
Installing an Authenticator Application:
ARI uses the TOTP standard for MFA so you will need to download a TOPT compatible authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or other similar authenticator apps. If you already have a compatible app (like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator) downloaded to your mobile phone, you can use that application. If you do not, contact your IT department to find out what your institution's preferred MFA authenticator is. Once downloaded, you will use this application to get a one-time code each time you sign into ARI.
Turning on MFA in ARI
To turn on MFA in your ARI account, click on the account Icon in the lower left of your ARI window. From the Account Settings dashboard, click on "Authentication Settings"
This will bring you to the authentication settings page. Click "Add an Authenticator app"
This will bring you to the MFA set up page. Open your authenticator app on your mobile phone and find the option to add a new MFA account (this option may appear as a "+" or a button that says "Add New"). Once you've begun the process of adding a new account to your authenticator app, you will have the option to scan a QR code, select this option.
Point your camera at the QR code that appears in ARI. This will add the ARI account to your authenticator app. Enter the code which appears in your authenticator into the "Verification Code" box and click "Verify"
After completing this step, MFA has been enabled for your account and you will now be prompted to enter the code from your authenticator account in order to log into ARI.
Reset your MFA Configuration Using a Recovery Code
If you have lost access to your authenticator app and have saved your recovery codes, you can reset your authenticator application settings once you have successfully logged in using your recovery code.
Navigate to your authentication settings following the steps outlined above. Once there, select "Reset authenticator Key"
Confirm Resetting your Authenticator Key then follow the steps at the beginning of this article to configure a new Authenticator Key.
