How Can I Manage Abbreviations in Clinical Notes?
Managing abbreviations in clinical notes is essential for ensuring clarity and accuracy in documentation. Arlo provides tools to help you review, edit, and control the use of abbreviations in your generated notes. Below are the steps to manage abbreviations effectively.
Reviewing and Editing Abbreviations
To review and edit which words are abbreviated in your clinical notes:
Navigate to Settings in the Arlo application.
Select Word Mapping.
In the Word Mapping section, you can:
View the list of words currently being abbreviated.
Click an existing abbreviation in the Replacement column to edit it.
Click the × icon next to a mapping to delete it
Select + Add Mapping to create a new abbreviation.
Click Save to apply your changes.
This feature allows you to customize abbreviations to align with your preferences or organizational standards.
Replace Abbreviations in a Generated Note
You can also replace words or phrases with their preferred abbreviations directly within a generated clinical note.
Highlight the word or phrase you want to replace.
Type the replacement (e.g., replace "right shoulder" with "R shoulder").
Click Replace
After clicking Replace, all matching instances of the selected term are updated throughout the generated note.
Preventing Abbreviations
If you prefer to avoid abbreviations entirely in your clinical notes, you can instruct the AI to write terms in full. Here’s how:
Go to Settings in the Arlo application.
Select User Instructions.
Add a directive such as: "Do not abbreviate terms." This will guide the AI to avoid using acronyms or shortened forms in your notes.
Click Save to apply your changes.
This customization ensures that your notes are fully written out, improving readability and reducing potential misunderstandings. By following these steps, you can take full control over how abbreviations are handled in your clinical notes, tailoring the output to meet your specific needs.
