Step 1: Open the templates page
Go to the Templates page in Arlo.
Click Create template.
Step 2: Add your template details
A popup window will appear.
Enter the details for your new template:
Template name
Template type
You can choose one of the following template types:
Step 3: Choose how to create your template
You have two options.
Option 1: Ask Arlo to create the template for you
Give Arlo a short description of the structure you want.
For example:
“Create a referral letter template which I can use to refer patients for an MRI.”
Arlo will generate a template based on your instructions.
Option 2: Start with a standard template
Choose Standard template to begin with a basic template.
You can then edit it yourself.
Step 4: Edit your template
Once your template has been generated, you can change it any way you like.
Use plain text for anything you want Arlo to reproduce exactly.
Use square brackets for instructions you want Arlo to follow.
If you like, you can add your e-signature by clicking the signature button near the top of the popup window (e-signatures can be added in settings -> letter settings)
For example:
Patient Name: [include the patient’s full name]
In this example, “Patient Name:” will appear exactly as written. Arlo will then fill in the patient’s full name based on the consultation.
Note: The example below shows a generated Referral Letter template. Patient Summary and Clinical Report templates are similar, but do not include a signature by default.
Treatment Note Templates
After a Treatment Note template is generated, it is displayed in a two-panel layout. The Example panel provides a live preview of the generated treatment note, while the Template panel allows you to customize the template.

Use the Template panel to edit section titles, questions, AI instructions, and add additional instruction lines as needed.
Tips for writing template instructions
Use clear, specific instructions inside square brackets.
Good examples:
[include the patient’s main complaint]
[summarise the assessment findings]
[include relevant positive and negative findings]
[write this section in full sentences]
[include the recommended treatment plan]
Avoid vague instructions such as:
[write notes]
[add details]
[make this good]
Saving your template
When you are happy with your template, save it.
You can now use it when generating notes, letters, summaries, or reports in Arlo.
