What Is the Document Designer?

The Document Designer is a visual editor used to build and customize your output documents (PDFs) within Array. You can use it to:

  • Create a document from scratch or upload an existing file

  • Link form fields to dynamic document placeholders

  • Add annotations, stamps, signatures, or callouts

  • Preview, print, and download final outputs

How to Access the Document Designer

You can access the Document Designer through several places in Array:

  • When creating a new PDF Doc

  • When editing an existing document

  • From a document linked to a form

  • Or by clicking on a document inside the Docs section

Navigating the Document Designer

Once inside the Document Designer, you’ll see your uploaded or blank document with a toolbox that gives you control over editing and layout.

Left-Hand Toolbox Options:

Add New Page

Insert an extra page into the document

Add Form Field

Add a field from a linked form (see our Form Field guide)

Panel View

Toggle a side panel showing thumbnails of your document pages

View Controls

Adjust page layout, transitions, and orientation

Zoom Percentage

Choose how much of the document you want to view

Zoom In/Out

Zoom in or out manually

Pan

Scroll and move across the document

Select

Drag to select multiple items for editing

Right-Hand Toolbox Options:

Expand the designer to full screen

Download

Download the document as a PDF

Print

Print the current document

Comments

View all notes or comments in the doc

Search

Search for any word or phrase within the document

Middle Toolbox Sections:

These are your core editing tools:

View / Annotate

  • View: Hides editing tools for a clean document preview

  • Annotate: Highlight, underline, strike through text, add notes or handwriting

  • Customize color and opacity for each annotation

Shapes

  • Add shapes such as rectangles, circles, lines

  • Adjust color, size, and opacity

Insert

  • Insert special elements:

    • Signature

    • Rubber stamp

    • Callout

    • Link

Edit

  • Edit existing text or objects on the document

Undo / Redo / Erase

  • Standard editing controls to reverse, reapply, or remove actions

When you're finished, click Save in the top right corner.

Edit, Copy, or Delete a Document

Edit a Document

  1. Go to Docs

  2. Open the folder where the document is stored

  3. Click on the document name to launch the Document Designer

  4. Make your changes

  5. Click Save (top right)

Copy or Delete a Document

  1. In the Docs section, check the box next to the document you want to copy or delete

  2. Action buttons will appear at the bottom of the page

  3. Click Copy to duplicate the document

  4. Click Delete to remove it permanently (you’ll be asked to confirm)
