Before you Start: Due to GDPR, detective no longer tracks anyone who does not accept your cookie consent. Once they do, it tracks them. As such, you will probably see a decline in detective visits as these are the people "bouncing" off your website (i.e. your bounce rate).
At Art Storefronts, we are committed to making sure our customers have as much information as possible about the people who visit their site and how their time is being spent on the website. Because of this, we’ve implemented an amazingly powerful new feature that will allow you to review every visit to your website and deduce what is working and what isn’t working in your marketing arena.
If you want to learn more about the Detective tool and how to use it, please follow the direction below.
Please Note: Before you get started, it’s important to know that data prior to September 1, 2017 may not appear when using Detective.
Accessing Detective via the Site Manager Menu
Log in to your Art Storefronts Site Manager and in the Jump To Menu, select the option labeled Detective. This option is going to take you directly to the Detective tool which is what you will want if you are looking for a general overview of your website.
You will be taken to a new page where you will see a list of information. Detective tracks your visitors and buyers and provides detailed information about where they came from, when they are visiting, and so much more.
After that, you may scroll down a bit further and you will begin seeing a list. This list is composed of Time of Visit as the first section. This will show you when a person visited your website.
The next column is Name. In this section, the name or e-mail address of the customer will appear. If the customer has not given you their e-mail address they will show up as Guest on this list until such a time as they provide you with their e-mail.
Tip: If you want more detailed information about a customer and their specific activities, you can click on their name and you’ll be taken to the Detective section of the Contact Manager.
After that, there is a section labeled # of Visits. This will show you how many visits a specific person has made to your website. If a person is on your site for 30 minutes without activity and then begins being active this will trigger a new session to start.
Then, we have the section labeled # of Events. This will tell you how many events the customer completed. This can be navigating to a new page, clicking on an image, adding something to a cart etc.
Last Event is up next and will tell you what the last event the user completed on the website was.
From there, we have the section labeled Last Order Date and this will tell you the city that the person is in.
Last Order Date is followed by Location and this will tell you the region where the potential customer is in.
The second to last column is titled Referer and this will show you where the customer is coming from if they came from a different website. This is invaluable to you because it will let you know where your customers are coming from and you’ll be able to suss out which marketing tactics are working for you and which aren’t.
The final column is labeled Device Type and this will simply let you know how the potential customer accessed your site. It will say either desktop, which means from a laptop or a desktop computer. If it says mobile it means the site was accessed via a mobile phone or even a tablet.
Please Note: This page uses pagination and as you scroll down it will continue to load visitors to the website until there are no further visits to load.
Accessing Detective via the Contact Manager
Log in to your Art Storefronts Site manager and in the Jump To Menu, select the option labeled Contacts. We’re selecting Contacts because we want to get to the more specialized information that the detective can offer based off a contact.
You’re going to be taken to your Contact Manager. Here you’ll want to scroll down until you find the Contact you want to look at and then you’ll need to go ahead and click on the name provided. In our example, we’re going to use the Contact labeled Jess WholesaleTest.
After clicking on the Contact, you’re going to be taken to a new page where you will see several different tabs. You need to make sure that you click on the tab labeled Behaviour. This will make sure you’re capable of accessing the Detective.
After clicking on the tab labeled Behaviour there will be a tab labeled Detective. You’ll need to click on this so you can review the Detective information for the specified contact.
The first section is labeled First Visit and this will provide an overview of the potential customers visit to your website. Here you’ll see basic information about how they visited your site, from where, the web browsers they are using, their screen size and several other pieces of information.
After that, there is a section labeled Overall Events. Here you’ll be able to see the events that the potential customer completed on your site. This will show you the images they viewed, whether or not anything was added to a cart or purchased.
The next item listed is Visit and this will show you every action that was taken and every single page that was viewed on the website.
The final section on the page is titled Visit Details and will provide more information about the potential customers computer and what they looked at on your website.
Please Note: It can take up to ten minutes for new information about visitors to be updated in the Detective tool.
Accessing Detective via an Order
Log in to your Art Storefronts Control Panel and in the Jump To Menu, select the option labeled Orders. This is going to take us to the order page where we will need to be in order to access the Detective information for Orders.
On the next page, you will encounter a list of Orders and you will need to find the Order you want to view the Detective information for. In our example, we will be looking at order 1000.
When you are taken to the next page, you will need to scroll down until you see a section labeled Detective where you will find a sentence letting you know that you can find full details about the visit by going to the Contact.
After that, there’s a section labeled This Visit that will provide you all the information you will need to know about the Visit that resulted in the order. It will show things like how the lead came to your website, what device they used and several other pieces of useful information.
First Visit is the next section and will detail the lead’s first visit to your site. If the first visit is the same visit that resulted in this order, this section will say so.
Overall Events is next and shows you critical actions that the visitor took on your website thus far. This will show things like the products that were viewed, products that were added to cart and products that were purchased.
Please Note: There are multiple event types:
Page View- This means that your customer viewed the page.
Contact Created- This means a contact was created.
Product View- This means a specific product was viewed.
Product Share- This means the specified product was shared via social media.
