The campaign activity filter uses the interaction of previous emails to filter people in or out of the audience for an email you're creating.

You can set this filter to include the interactions of 1 or 2 previous campaigns.

Turning on the filter includes people who meet the criteria listed.

What Are the Settings, and How do They Work?

Did/Did Not

  • Receive

  • Open

  • Click

When using the activity of 2 campaigns there is an additional condition of "AND" or "OR," which must be selected.

The "AND" condition means that whichever settings you make for both campaigns, the recipients on this email have to meet both of those conditions to be included in the filter.

The "OR" condition means that the recipients of this email only need to meet 1 of the 2 conditions to be included in the filter.

Examples:

Situation: I am preparing an email and I want to send it to everyone except the recipients of the Recommendations email I just sent an hour ago.

Settings:

Recommendations email: DID NOT receive.

Situation: I am preparing an email and I want to send it to everyone except the recipients of 2 separate consignment emails I sent out yesterday.

Settings

Consignment campaign #1 - Did not receive

AND

Consignment campaign #2 - Did not receive

Situation: I am preparing an email for a combination Pottery/Jewellery auction and I want to send it to anyone who was on the recipients' list of both specialty newsletters I sent last week

Settings

Jewellery Newsletter - Did receive

AND

Pottery Newsletter - Did receive

Using the Filter to Send an Email to Everyone Except Recipients of a Personalized Email (Recommendations/Trending)

The most common use of the campaign activity filter is to incorporate the personalized recommendations into your email cycle by sending a General newsletter to everyone except the recipients of the Recommendations email and the Trending email.

Example: Recommendations Campaign #258 and Trending Campaign #259, and a General Newsletter to everyone else.

After sending the 2 personalized campaigns above, go into the "Audience" settings of the General email you are creating.

  1. Turn on the Campaign Activity Filter

  2. Select "+Add Filter" beneath the conditions of the first campaign (shown below)

  3. In the "Select Campaign" drop-down menu, select Recommendations Campaign #258

  4. Set filter to "Did not" receive an email

  5. Make the condition "AND"

  6. Then select the second campaign (Trending Campaign #259), and select "did not" receive email.

The settings screen would look like this:
