🖨️ Creating Wall Labels in ARTERNAL

Create professional, print-ready Avery wall labels directly from your ARTERNAL inventory. This feature allows you to customize and format artwork captions into a PDF designed for Avery templates, ready for gallery display.

Wall Labels allow you to generate print-ready labels for artworks displayed in exhibitions. Each label automatically pulls artwork details from your inventory, such as artist, title, year, and additional notes, and formats them into a standardized layout.

You can customize which details appear on your labels using the Wall Label Caption Formatter in your PDF Template settings.

Open the Wall Label Settings

  1. Go to Settings > PDF Templates > Wall Labels.

  2. Under Wall Label Settings, you’ll see options to add a Header Image and edit the Wall Label Caption Formatter.

Customize the Caption Format

  1. Click View available caption fields to see a list of supported placeholders.


    Available fields include:
    ​[artist], [title], [year], [medium], [dimensions], [inventory #], [additional notes], and more.

  2. In the text box, enter the fields you’d like to include on each wall label — one per line.

  3. Click Save Changes to apply your format.

Generate Wall Labels from Your Inventory

  1. Go to your Inventory tab and select the artworks you want to include.

  2. Click the PDF icon on the top right, then select Create PDF.

Choose the Wall Label PDF Type

  1. In the Create a PDF window, select the Wall Labels layout.

  2. Toggle Show Cutting Guides on or off depending on your preference.

  3. Choose an Avery Template from the dropdown — options include:

    • Avery 8923/18163 (2" x 4", 10 per page)

    • Avery 8160 (1" x 2 5/8", 30 per page)

  4. Click Next (Edit PDF) to preview your labels.

5. Review and Download

  1. Review the preview to confirm that each label displays correctly.

  2. When you’re satisfied, click Download PDF to save your Avery-ready wall labels for printing.

Each label will display the chosen caption fields in your selected Avery layout, ready for printing and display beneath your artworks.

Q: Can I print without using Avery templates?
A: Yes. You can still generate wall label PDFs and print them on any paper type — just disable Show Cutting Guides for a cleaner layout.

Q: Can I include the artwork price on my wall labels?
A: Yes. You can include [price] as one of your caption fields if you’d like to display prices.
