Whether you’re uploading new contacts or batch-updating existing ones, importing via a CSV file is the way to go! This guide will walk you through the steps to make the process smooth and efficient. If you'd like a detailed breakdown of the import template for contacts, please check out this article. Now, let’s dive in!

Step 1:

  • In the bottom-left corner, select the circle with your initials > Import/Export.

Step 2:

  • Select "Import Contacts" in the sidebar on the left.

If you need a copy of the contact CSV template, please click the "Get Template" link.

If you need

Step 3:

  • Follow the template to fill out your spreadsheet.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  1. Optional Fields: You don’t have to fill in every column. If certain information is missing, feel free to leave columns blank or remove them from the spreadsheet.

  2. Header Formatting: Make sure your spreadsheet headers are in lowercase and use underscores, as shown in the template.

  3. Multi-Entry Fields: Only the tags and roles fields allow multiple entries. Use commas to separate these values. Other fields, like email or assigned lists, accept only a single entry.

  4. File Format: The spreadsheet must be in CSV format.

  5. Contact Limit: Each CSV file should contain no more than 2,000 contacts. If you have more, please split them into separate files.

  6. Updating Existing Contacts: ARTERNAL identifies contacts by email address. If an email already exists in your account, importing the same email will update the contact record instead of creating a duplicate.

Step 4:

  • Upload your file by selecting the Upload Spreadsheet button.

If you need any help formatting your spreadsheet, please feel free to reach out to support@arternal.com!
