What is an inactive contact?

Inactive contacts are those with an invalid email address or have been manually marked as inactive by users. You can identify an inactive contact by checking their status on their individual profile page or within the contact list.

Why Does an Inactive Contact Matter?

Inactive contacts remain visible in your Contacts tab, but you cannot send Smart Mail to them.

  • If you try to add an inactive contact to a Smart Mail, you will receive the error message: "Cannot send email to an inactive contact."

How Does a Contact Become Inactive?

There are two ways a contact can become inactive:

  1. Bounced Emails:
When a contact’s email address is no longer valid, and emails sent via Smart Mail bounce back, ARTERNAL will automatically mark that contact as inactive.

  2. Manual Inactivation:
You can manually mark a contact as inactive by clicking the three-dot icon under their profile picture and selecting Make Contact Inactive.

How to Make a Contact Active Again?

Whether a contact was made inactive automatically or manually, you can always reactivate them:

  1. Go to the contact's individual profile page.

  2. Click on Make Contact Active to restore their status and allow Smart Mail to be sent again.
