How do I create beam and column takeoffs for blueprint projects?

If you’re in construction working on complex, multi-material builds, you likely face rising costs, labor shortages, and growing demands for faster, more digital workflows. That’s why we’ve made it easier to estimate and order trimboard materials with Beams & Columns measurements, now available in Estimates for qualifying blueprint projects.

In combination with the ability to bulk apply templates at once, this gives you a faster, more complete way to scope structural trim - directly in Hover.

First, upload a blueprint


  • Upload a blueprint from the web-app

  • Select Full exterior or Complete as your measurement type

  • Wait for the notification from Hover that the measurements are ready

Then, create an estimate


  • From the project details page, click or tap Get estimates from the Estimates card

  • Select as many templates as you need for the trades included in your project scope

    • For beams and columns:

      • Scroll through the material menu until you see Beams and columns

      • Select the + button

      • Click Starter templates

      • Select Beams & Column - Auto Buckets

      • Click Apply

  • Click Create Estimate

The beams & columns measurements are not included in the Measurement PDF, but once the production-ready estimate has been created, you will see the beam and column details from:

  • Option 1: The scope summary

    • Tap Summary at the top of the page

  • Option 2: The Material line item section, and the Labor line item sections

    • Use the quick links to instantly scroll to that information
