Quick Start: AI Document Q&A

How to get started with Legalyze.ai AI Document Q&A

Written by Chris Ford

AI Document Q&A lets you ask questions about your case documents and get instant answers. Every answer shows you exactly where the information came from by including:

  • The paragraphs that contain the answer

  • Which documents they're from

  • The page number where you can find them

Note: If you want to use Smokeball, MyCase, or Clio case documents for AI analysis, go to the Integrations help page first

Getting Started with Document Q&A:

Create a Case

  1. Click the 'Add Case' button/menu item

  2. Enter your Case Name

  3. Upload your case files

    1. Drag files Into the upload area or click to browse

    2. Upload up to 50 files at once

    3. Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, MSG, RTF

  4. Click 'Add Case' to upload the files

  5. You are redirected to the Document Q&A screen for the case. Allow some time for files to upload

Optional Upload Features:

  • Check 'Add Question Template' to automatically ask a list of pre-defined questions to your documents

  • Check 'Use OCR for scanned files?' if your documents are scanned (Note: this will cause much slower upload speeds)

  • Upload from a practice management system (if integrated):

    • Select the Clio, Smokeball, or MyCase radio button (if integrated)

    • Choose your case from the dropdown that appears

    • Select which files to upload

Asking Questions to a Case or File

  1. Select your case or file name from the left sidebar

  2. Type your question in the chat box

  3. Wait a few seconds for your answer

  4. At the end of the answer, click 'Sources' to see the exact paragraphs and documents referenced

Your chat history is automatically saved for future reference. Files can be downloaded by clicking the 'Download' icon next to the file.

Tip: Use the 'Prompt Templates' section for pre-built prompts
