Clio Integration

Written by Chris Ford

Connect Legalyze to Clio Manage so you can import matter documents, upload medical chronologies, and save chat answers as matter notes.

Connect Clio

  1. In Legalyze, open Integrations (from the main navigation).

  2. On the Clio card, click Connect to Clio.

  3. Sign in to Clio if prompted and approve Legalyze’s access.

  4. You’ll return to Legalyze with a success message; the button changes to Disconnect Clio.

Link a Legalyze case to a Clio matter (required for exports and chat notes):

  1. Go to Add Case

  2. Select the OCR checkbox if the documents are scanned, and the Create a Medical Chronology checkbox if you would like to create a medical chronology

  3. Under file source, choose Clio (only shown when Clio is connected).

  4. Search or browse Clio matters and select the matter for this case.

  5. Pick documents from that matter to import, then finish creating the case.

The case stays tied to that Clio matter ID. To remove the account link only, use Disconnect Clio on the Integrations page (existing linked cases keep their matter link until you change them).

Export a medical chronology to Clio

You need: Clio connected on Integrations and a Legalyze case linked to a Clio matter.

  1. Open the medical chronology for that case.

  2. Click Export in the page header.

  3. Choose format (Word or CSV) and report type (e.g. All Events, Summaries Only). Active table filters apply to the export.

  4. Under the Clio destination, pick a folder location to export the medical chronology

  5. Click Export to Clio. Legalyze generates the file, downloads it locally, then uploads the same export to the linked Clio matter.

  6. Confirm the success message; the file appears in Clio under the folder you chose.

Use Download alone if you only want a local copy and do not need it in Clio.

Export chat to Clio

You need: The same setup—a connected Clio account and a case linked to a Clio matter. Chat must be on that case (case-level or file-level).

  1. Ask a question and wait until the full answer has finished (not while it’s still streaming).

  2. On that answer, click Send to Clio (next to Copy).

  3. Optional: open the dropdown menu and choose:

    • Send without sources — question and answer only, citation markers removed.

    • Send with sources — includes source references when the answer has them.

  4. Legalyze posts one Clio matter note per Q&A. You’ll see Sent to Clio on success.

Troubleshooting

Issue

What to check

No Clio option when adding a case

Connect Clio on Integrations first.

No Export to Clio or Send to Clio

Case must be linked to a Clio matter; Clio must still be connected on Integrations.

Export to Clio fails after download

Retry; the upload uses the file just generated. Check Clio permissions and folder access.
