Overview
This article explains why you might encounter an error when saving manual upsell triggers in Upcart and how to prevent it.
You can find this setting by going to Upcart > Editor > Upsells Module.
If you see an error like “An error occurred: Unable to save changes,” it is usually due to exceeding Shopify’s data size limit.
There is no fixed number of upsell lines that will cause this issue. The limit depends on the total amount of data being saved. Some products, especially those with many variants or detailed configurations, contain more data than others. As a result, the limit can vary depending on product complexity and quantity.
Tips to Avoid the Shopify Data Size Limit Error
1. Use Collections
Instead of adding products individually, use collections. This reduces data load and makes your setup easier to manage.
2. Combine Upsell Rows
If multiple rows share the same trigger product, merge them into a single row. This helps conserve data space.
3. Choose Upsells Wisely
Display only the most relevant upsells. Showing too many options can confuse shoppers and reduce their effectiveness due to decision fatigue.
