Overview

This FAQ explains why you might get an error when saving manual upsell triggers in UpCart and how to avoid it.

You can find this setting by going to UpCart > Editor > Upsells Module and here's an example of the error message you may see:

If you encounter an error while saving a manual upsell, it's typically due to exceeding Shopify's data size limit.

There isn’t a fixed number of lines that will trigger this limit—it depends on the total amount of data being saved. Some products contain more data, such as those with numerous variants, while others have significantly less. As a result, the limit can vary based on the complexity and size of the products involved.

Tips to Avoid the Shopify Data Size Limit Error

  1. Use Collections
Instead of adding products individually, use collections. This reduces data usage and keeps the setup more manageable.

  2. Combine Upsell Rows
If multiple rows share the same trigger product, merge them into a single row to conserve space.

  3. Choose Upsells Wisely
Display only the most relevant upsells. Overloading the cart with too many options can create confusion and reduce their effectiveness due to decision fatigue.
