Upcart Requires Two Clicks for an Action

This article explains why certain actions in Upcart may require two clicks to complete and how to troubleshoot this issue.

Updated this week

Overview

A common issue merchants experience is the theme’s cart opening behind Upcart. This can appear in two ways:

  1. Visible Cart Issue: The theme’s cart appears visibly in the background behind Upcart.

  2. Non-visible Cart Issue: Customers may report needing to tap or click twice for actions to work. This often happens because the theme’s cart is still opening in the background.

This guide walks you through how to resolve both visible and non-visible cart opening issues. These conflicts typically stem from theme compatibility problems, especially when using custom or outdated Shopify themes. Properly updating and configuring your theme settings can improve Upcart’s performance and prevent these issues.

Fixing the Visible Cart Issue

If your theme’s cart is opening behind Upcart and is visible in the background, follow these steps:

  1. Set the Cart to “Page” in Theme Settings

    • Go to your Shopify Admin and navigate to Online Store > Themes > Customize > Settings > Cart.

    • Switch the cart type to Page instead of Drawer or Popup.

    • Some themes may label this setting as Cart Page.

  2. Turn Off the Ajax Setting in Upcart

    • Go to your Upcart Settings and disable the Ajax functionality.

    • Navigate to Settings > Advanced > Enhanced Ajax API Compatibility.

Setting the cart to “Page” ensures that the theme’s native cart functionality does not interfere with Upcart’s performance. These two steps should stop the theme’s cart from opening in the background.

Fixing the Non-Visible Cart Issue

If the cart is not visible but actions require two clicks to work, the theme’s cart may still be opening behind Upcart. Try the following:

  1. Turn Off the Ajax Setting in Upcart

    • Go to your Upcart settings and disable the Ajax setting as described above.

  2. If the Issue Persists

    • Set your cart type to Page in your Shopify theme settings.

    • Turn off Ajax functionality in Upcart if not already done.
