What is a label format?

A label format describes the physical characteristics of a physical label and the printer configuration expected to print this label. Labels have different widths and heights and may be printed on printers having different printing densities (dots per inches or mm), qualities and orientations. For example, a classic example would be a 4 x 6 inches label with a density of 8 dots per mm (203 dots per in). In order to simplify those combinations, you can create as many formats as needed and re-use them across multiple label models. When the formats are created, the corresponding label format will be visible on the Format ID selector found in Label Models (AL201000) summary area.

PROCESS FLOW

  1. Navigate to Asgard Labels > Preferences > Formats.

In the Generic Inquiry page of the label Format form that opens, click on + to add a New Record.

Expected Result: The data entry page of Formats must open.

In the data entry page, indicate the Format ID. It is the unique identifier that defines the label format in the system. An alphanumeric string with 50 maximum characters must be used.

2. In the Summary Area of the form, indicate the Description. This should tell the user about the format being created.

3. In the Summary Area of the form, indicate the Print Quality. There are two options available: Grayscale or Bitonal.

  • Grayscale: The printing occurs in a range of shades of gray without use of apparent color.

  • Bitonal: As the name implies, there are only 2 tones. The printing consists of only pure black dot and pure white.

4. Fill up all the other necessary fields in the Summary Area of the form.

  • Width: The width of the label in the unit of measure selected in the Size Unit.

  • Height: The height of the label in the unit of measure selected in the Size Unit.

  • Size Unit: The unit of measure dictating the dimension of the label. The following options are available: inch, cm, mm.

  • Rotation: The orientation that the label will take when it is printed. The following options are available: 0°, 90°, 180° and, 270°.

  • Print Density: The measurement of light reflected off of the substrate, or how dark the print appears after each imprinted dot. The print density you select will depend on the printer you are using. The following options are available: 6 dpmm (152 dpi), 8 dpmm (203 dpi), 12 dpmm (304 dpi), 24 dpmm (609 dpi).

In the Form Toolbar, click on the SAVE button to save the changes you’ve made.
