Short answer
AskTuring currently supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, RTF, TXT, and MD files. Excel (XLS, XLSX) support will be released soon.
Full explanation
You can store the following document types in a Project, and AskTuring will automatically make their contents searchable and usable in AI responses within that Project:
PDF (preferred)
Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX)
Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX)
Rich Text Format (RTF)
Plain text files (TXT)
Markdown files (MD)
Excel (XLS, XLSX) files will be supported in an upcoming release, allowing you to store and search spreadsheet data directly within your Projects.
PDF files are preferred because they preserve formatting and are processed most accurately by AskTuring. Other supported formats will still work well and can be used interchangeably.
AskTuring also performs automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on scanned documents, so even image-based files become fully searchable after upload.
We’re continuously adding support for new file formats. If there’s a specific type you’d like to use that isn’t currently supported, check platform updates or contact AskTuring support to request it.
Tips
For the best performance, use PDF when possible.
Keep related documents in the same Project to improve AI accuracy and context.
You can upload multiple file types together. AskTuring will process and search them seamlessly.
Watch for the upcoming Excel support update to start using spreadsheets in your Projects.
