Short answer
Private Indexes are for your own use or invited members only. Shared Indexes are accessible to all AskTuring users.

Full explanation
In AskTuring, an Index is a collection of documents, settings, and semantic mappings used to generate answers.

  • Private Index
Created and controlled by you (or your organization). Only you and the users you explicitly invite can view, search, or manage the contents. These Indexes are ideal for sensitive or proprietary information.

  • Shared Index
Made available by AskTuring for all users to access. These may include industry-specific datasets, public regulations, or reference materials. Shared Indexes are read-only β€” you cannot modify their content, but you can query them alongside your own Indexes.

Security note
All data in Private Indexes remains secured and is not visible to anyone outside the authorized members. Shared Indexes contain only non-confidential information curated for public use.

Tips

  • Use Private Indexes for your company documents and sensitive information.

  • Use Shared Indexes for supplemental public data without needing to upload it yourself.
