Short answer
You can edit or update your Semantic Map offline by downloading the current Excel version, making your changes, and uploading it back into AskTuring. Categories can be defined either before or after you upload the updated Excel file. Each term can include up to 10 alternative terms, which you can edit or update at any time.

Full explanation
Editing a Semantic Map allows you to refine Categories and terms over time to keep your Index accurate and useful.

To edit or update your Semantic Map using Excel:

  1. Go to the Semantic Map tab for your Index.

  2. Download the current Semantic Map in Excel format.

  3. Add, remove, or adjust Categories and terms as needed.

  4. For each term, you can define up to 10 alternative terms (synonyms or related phrases). These help AskTuring recognize variations in wording during searches.

  5. Save your changes.

  6. Upload the updated file back into AskTuring.

You can define Categories in advance inside AskTuring or create them directly in the Excel sheet — the system will recognize them on upload.

Tip
Keep one Category as a General Terms or equivalent “catch-all” to store items that don’t fit neatly into other groups. This helps preserve search coverage.
