Short answer
Ephemeral File Upload lets you upload files directly into a chat for temporary use. These files are stored only during the session and are automatically deleted once the chat ends.

Full explanation
The Ephemeral File Upload feature allows you to upload files as part of your chat so AskTuring can use their content to answer questions or provide context during your conversation. These uploads exist only in session memory, meaning they are not saved, not indexed, and not retained after the chat ends.

When you upload a file this way, you’ll see a “Chat Only” badge next to it. This label indicates that the file is temporary and available only for the duration of your active chat. Once the conversation closes, the file and any information derived from it are permanently deleted from AskTuring’s system.

This feature is ideal when you want to:

  1. Upload a document for temporary reference in your chat.

  2. Let AskTuring analyze or summarize a file without storing it.

  3. Keep sensitive information completely private and ephemeral.

Tips

  • Use Ephemeral Uploads when you need quick insights from a document but don’t want it added to your Index.

  • Files uploaded with the “Chat Only” badge are deleted automatically once the session ends.

  • For documents you want AskTuring to remember or reuse, upload them to your Index instead.

Examples

  • A law firm uploads a case summary during a consultation chat to get quick legal analysis, knowing it will be deleted once the chat ends.

  • A marketing agency uploads a presentation draft to refine campaign messaging in a single conversation without saving it.

  • A healthcare provider uploads a temporary report to check for compliance wording, ensuring no data remains afterward.

  • A financial services firm uploads a budget spreadsheet to ask financial modeling questions, keeping it out of permanent storage.
