Summary

This article explains how to enable microphone access and use voice dictation to input questions in AskTuring.ai. Use this feature when you prefer speaking your questions instead of typing them, or when you need hands-free interaction with the platform.

Prerequisites

  • You must have an active AskTuring.ai account

  • Your browser must support microphone access (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge recommended)

  • You need a working microphone connected to your device

Step-by-step Instructions

Enabling Microphone Access

1. Click the microphone icon

Locate and click the microphone icon in the chat input area at the bottom of your screen.

2. Grant microphone permission

When your browser displays a permission prompt, click Allow to grant AskTuring.ai access to your microphone. You may see options like "Allow while visiting this site" or "Always allow" β€” either option will work.

Note: This permission request only appears the first time you use voice dictation. Your browser will remember your choice for future sessions.

Using Voice Dictation

3. Start recording

Click the microphone icon again to begin recording your voice. The icon will change appearance to indicate that recording is active.

4. Speak your question

Speak clearly into your microphone. AskTuring.ai supports multiple languages, so you can dictate in your preferred language.

5. Review the transcribed text

Your spoken words will automatically appear as typed text in the chat input field. The transcription happens in real-time as you speak.

Note: You can edit the transcribed text before submitting if needed.

Tips and Notes

  • First-time setup: If you accidentally click "Block" when prompted for microphone access, you'll need to manually enable it in your browser settings. Look for a microphone icon in your browser's address bar to change permissions.

  • Multi-language support: The voice dictation feature automatically detects and transcribes multiple languages. You don't need to change any settings to switch languages.

  • Background noise: For best results, use voice dictation in a quiet environment. Background noise may affect transcription accuracy.

  • Editing: You can always edit the transcribed text before submitting your question, just like you would with typed text.

  • Stopping recording: Click the microphone icon again to stop recording, or simply start typing to switch back to keyboard input.
