Summary

This article walks you through asking a question in a project on AskTuring.ai. You will learn how to select files, submit a query, and explore the sources used in the AI's response. Use this guide when you are ready to start chatting with your project documents.

Prerequisites

To chat with a project, you must have access to at least one project in AskTuring.ai, and it should contain at least one uploaded file. Additionally, you need Viewer, Contributor, or Manager role permissions.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open your project

Click on the project you want to chat with from your project list.

2. Verify your files

Click Files in the project navigation to see all documents in your project. Review the list to confirm the files you want to include in your chat, and deselect any files you do not want the AI to reference when answering your questions. Only selected files will be used to generate responses.

3. Enter your question

Navigate to the chat field in the center of your screen and type your question or query.

4. Send your query

Click the arrow icon (send button) to submit your question. The AI will process your query and generate a response based on your selected files.

5. Request a more detailed response (optional)

After the AI completes its response, you will see several action buttons below the last sentence. To get a longer, more comprehensive answer, click the magnifying glass icon with two stars (Deep Research).

6. View source files

Click the Sources button (e.g., "5 Sources") below the response to see which files AskTuring used to generate the answer.

7. Review the source list

A dropdown menu will appear showing all the files and specific sections that were referenced in the response.

8. Navigate to source content

Click on any individual source in the list to jump directly to that location in your original file and see the exact content that was used.

Tips and Notes

  • File selection matters: Only files you have selected in the Files tab will be used to answer your questions. If you are not getting relevant answers, check that the right files are selected.

  • Source transparency: Every response shows which files and sections were used, helping you verify accuracy and explore further.

  • Deep Research: The magnifying glass with stars icon triggers a more thorough analysis that may take slightly longer but provides more detailed answers.

  • Processing time: Complex questions or projects with many large files may take a few extra seconds to process.
