Summary
This article explains how to upload temporary files directly into an AI Chat conversation. Use this feature when you need quick insights from a file that you don't want to retain long-term.
Prerequisites
Access to AI Chat in AskTuring.ai
A file you want to analyze (supported formats may include PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, and other common file types)
Step-by-step Instructions
1. Navigate to AI Chat
Open AI Chat from your AskTuring.ai workspace.
2. Click the "+" icon
Locate the "+" icon on the left side of the text input field at the bottom of the chat interface, then click it.
3. Select your upload method
A drop-down menu will appear with options for uploading your file. Choose one of the available methods:
Upload from your computer
Select from cloud storage
Other available upload options
4. Wait for the file to load
Once you've selected your file, you'll see a loading indicator appear directly above the "+" icon. This means AskTuring is processing and ingesting your file into the current AI Chat conversation.
5. Start chatting with your file
When the loading indicator disappears, your file is ready. You can now ask questions about the file's content directly in the chat.
6. Verify your ephemeral files
Click the "Files" button located below the text input field to view all ephemeral files currently active in this conversation. This panel confirms which files are available and reminds you that these files are temporary and will not be retained after the conversation ends.
Tips and Notes
Ephemeral files are temporary: Files uploaded this way are only available for the current AI Chat session.
Large files may take longer: Depending on file size and complexity, processing time may vary. Wait for the loading indicator to disappear before asking questions.
Multiple files: You can upload multiple ephemeral files to the same conversation by repeating steps 2β4.
File retention: If you need to reference a file across multiple conversations or share it with your team, consider uploading it to a project's knowledge base instead.
