Creating, Renaming & Deleting Projects

This article explains how to create new projects in AskTuring.ai, customize them with descriptions and instructions, rename existing projects, and delete projects when needed.

Prerequisites

  • You must have an active AskTuring.ai account

  • You must have permission to create projects (available to all user roles)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Creating a New Project

  1. Click Projects in the left sidebar menu.

  2. Click the + icon to start creating a new project.

  3. Enter a name for your project in the Project Name text field.

  4. Add a project description in one of two ways:

    • Type your own description in the Project Description field, or

    • Click Fill with AI to have AskTuring.ai generate a description automatically based on your project name.

  5. (Optional) Click the Write the project instructions here field to add custom instructions for how the AI should behave in this project.

    • Example instructions: "Please end every response with a smiley face" or "Never use a semicolon"

    • These instructions will apply to all AI responses within this project.

  6. Click Create Project to finish.

Your new project will appear in the left sidebar and you can begin using it immediately.

Renaming a Project

  1. Locate your project in the left sidebar menu.

  2. Click the three dots icon next to the project name.

  3. Select Project Details from the dropdown menu.

  4. Click in the Project Name text field and enter your new project name.

  5. Click Save to apply the change.

The project name will update immediately in the sidebar.

Deleting a Project

Warning: Deleting a project is permanent and cannot be undone. All conversations, files, and settings within the project will be removed.

  1. Click the three dots icon next to the project you want to delete.

  2. Select Delete Project from the dropdown menu.

  3. Type DELETE in all capital letters in the confirmation field.

  4. Click Delete to confirm.

A confirmation message will appear in the bottom right corner: "Your project has been deleted successfully."

Tips and Notes

  • AI-generated descriptions are created based on your project name, so choose a descriptive name for best results.

  • Project instructions apply to all AI interactions within that project. Use them to set consistent formatting, tone, or behavior rules.

  • Deletion is permanent — there is no way to recover a deleted project. Double-check before confirming deletion.

  • You can have multiple projects active at once and switch between them using the left sidebar.
