Prerequisites
Access to AI Chat or Project Chat in AskTuring.ai
An active conversation or the ability to start a new one
Step-by-Step Instructions
Starting Your Conversation
Navigate to AI Chat or Project Chat in your AskTuring.ai workspace.
Locate the LLM selector button below the query input field. By default, this button displays "Auto," meaning AskTuring automatically selects the most suitable model for your query. The button shows an icon representing whichever LLM is currently active.
Selecting a Specific LLM
Click the LLM selector button to open the model selection menu.
Choose your preferred LLM from the available options (e.g., Claude Sonnet 4.5, Gemini 3 Pro, Grok 4).
Type your query in the input field and press Enter. For example: "Hi, my name is Alan Turing and I am the designer of the Turing Machine."
Review the response from your selected LLM.
Switching LLMs Mid-Conversation
Ask a follow-up question using the same LLM. For example: "Who helped me crack the Enigma code?"
Click the LLM selector button again at any point in the conversation.
Select a different LLM (e.g., switch from Claude to Gemini 3 Pro).
Ask a question that references previous context. For example: "Tell me more about a few of those people."
Observe that the new LLM responds with full awareness of the earlier conversation, even though a different model provided the original information.
Verifying Context Retention
Switch to another LLM (e.g., Grok 4) to further test context retention.
Ask a question about information you provided earlier in the conversation. For example: "Who am I and what do I do?"
Confirm the response accurately reflects details from the beginning of the conversation, demonstrating that context is preserved across all model switches.
Tips and Notes
Auto mode is recommended for most users, as AskTuring will intelligently route queries to the most appropriate model.
Context is fully preserved when switching between LLMs—you don't need to repeat information or start a new conversation.
Different LLMs have different strengths: you might switch models to get alternative perspectives, more detailed analysis, or different writing styles on the same topic.
The conversation history is shared across all models in the same chat session, so any LLM can reference what was previously discussed, regardless of which model generated earlier responses.
