Summary
This article explains how to extract text from images and scanned documents using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) in AskTuring.ai. Use these steps when you want Project Chat to read and understand the contents of an image, such as a scanned page or a photo of a document.
Prerequisites
You must be logged in to your AskTuring.ai account.
You must have access to the project where you want to use OCR.
Your image or scanned document must be uploaded or attached in Project Chat.
Step-by-step instructions
A. Run OCR on an image in Project Chat
Upload or attach your image in Project Chat
In your project, open Project Chat.
Upload or attach the image or scanned document you want to process (for example, a newspaper scan, screenshot, or photo of a document).
Make sure the image successfully appears in the chat.
Ask AskTuring.ai to run OCR
In the Project Chat message box, type: OCR this image.
Send the message so the assistant receives both your instruction and the attached image.
Wait for the OCR result
Wait a few seconds while AskTuring.ai processes the image.
The assistant will reply with:
The extracted text from the image, and
A brief understanding or description of the image content (for example, recognizing that it is a newspaper image).
Tips or notes
OCR works best on clear, high-resolution images where text is not blurry or cut off.
You can use OCR on scanned documents, photos of printed documents, or screenshots that contain text.
After OCR, you can ask follow-up questions in Project Chat, such as “Summarize this text” or “Extract key points from this document.”
If the OCR result seems incomplete, try uploading a clearer version of the image or cropping out unnecessary background.
