If you keep a BRL balance in your AstroPay wallet, you can earn 115% of the CDI rate as a daily yield. This article explains what the CDI is, how the yield is calculated, how taxes are handled, and what you can expect to earn.
What is the CDI?
The CDI (Certificado de Depósito Interbancário) is the reference rate used in Brazil for short-term interbank lending. Earning "115% of CDI" means your balance earns 15% more than the CDI itself.
How your balance earns 115% of CDI
The yield is calculated automatically on the balance you held the previous day and applied to your BRL wallet. The calculation runs on business days only (Monday to Friday) — no yield is generated on weekends or Brazilian bank holidays due to banking operations.
ℹ️ Note: Earnings below BRL 0.01 are not credited to your wallet. The minimum credit threshold applies to all currencies that earn daily yield.
How taxes affect your earnings
Brazilian income tax (IR — Imposto de Renda) of 22.5% is withheld automatically on your daily yield. You do not need to declare it manually — the deduction is applied at the source, and the cashback that appears in your wallet is always the net amount, with taxes already deducted.
Example
Assuming the CDI is at 14.9% per year and you hold BRL 1,000 in your wallet:
Annual gross yield at 115% of CDI: about 17.14%.
Daily net earnings (after 22.5% IR): about BRL 0.49 per business day.
The actual amount you earn varies with the current CDI rate and the balance you hold each day.
The longer you keep your funds in your BRL wallet, the more your balance grows — automatically, every business day.
