AstroCard fees: purchases and ATM withdrawals

How AstroCard fees work on purchases and ATM cash withdrawals, including the difference between LOCAL and GLOBAL cards.

Written by Nina Montero

Your AstroCard works for purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted and for ATM cash withdrawals. The fee you pay on a transaction depends on the type of card you have (LOCAL or GLOBAL), where the merchant is located, and the country your card is issued in.

LOCAL vs GLOBAL AstroCards

AstroCard is issued in two versions depending on your country:

  • LOCAL card: tied to a specific country's currency.

  • GLOBAL card: can be used worldwide.

What counts as local vs international

A purchase is considered local when the merchant is located in the same country as your card. It's considered international when the merchant is in a different country — even if you're physically there or buying online from a foreign website.

ℹ️ Note: The merchant's country, not your physical location, determines whether the transaction is local or international.

Fees on purchases

  • LOCAL card at a local merchant: no fee.

  • LOCAL card at a foreign merchant (Argentina-based users): a 3.5% international transaction fee applies.

  • GLOBAL card, Argentina-based users: a 3.5% international transaction fee applies to every purchase, regardless of where the merchant is located.

  • GLOBAL card, users outside Argentina: no purchase fee.

International purchases are charged in the merchant's currency and converted to your card's currency. You can review the full breakdown — including currency conversion and any fees — in the transaction detail in your Transaction History.

Fees on ATM withdrawals

When you withdraw cash from an ATM with a GLOBAL card, a 1.5% international transaction fee applies to the withdrawal amount, in any country.

ATM withdrawals made with a LOCAL card are not subject to this fee.

Things to know

  • The exchange rate used for currency conversion is set by the card network at the time of the transaction.

  • Make sure your balance covers the final converted amount plus any fees before confirming a purchase or withdrawal.
