Attributes are a powerful tool to help you communicate specific details about a staff member's shift. This tutorial will walk you through how to use and define attributes in our system.
What are Attributes?
Attributes allow you to provide additional, relevant information to your staff directly within their shift details. This helps them understand specific requirements or characteristics of their assigned work, such as the age group they'll be working with, the type of class they'll be teaching, or any other important context.
Adding Attributes to a Shift
Let's imagine we're setting up a flag football shift and want to assign referees to specific game types.
Create a Shift: Begin by creating a new shift. For this example, we'll use a pre-selected "Flag Football" program.
Add Staff: Add the staff members who will be working the shift.
For instance, let's add Bob and Von as referees.
Select Attributes: Scroll down and select the Attributes section.
Assign Specific Attributes: Now, you can assign attributes to each staff member for that shift.
For Bob, let's select "Grades 2-3" to indicate he'll be refereeing a game for that age group.
For Vaughn, we can select "13-15 year olds" and also "Co-ed" if it's a co-ed league.
Confirm and Publish: Click "Done" to save the attributes. When you publish the shift, Bob and Vaughn will see these specific details when they view their shift information.
Defining and Managing Attributes
The system comes with some default attributes, but you have the flexibility to customize them to fit your organization's needs.
Navigate to Attributes: Go to the Organization tab and select Attributes.
Default Attributes: You'll see default attribute categories like Age, Gender, Grade, and Skill Level.
Edit or Delete Defaults:
You can delete any of the default attributes if they aren't relevant to your operations.
Add New Categories: To create new categories for attributes:
Click on Add another category.
Enter a name for your new category (e.g., "Class Type" for a fitness program).
Click Save. A new category will appear.
Add Specific Attributes to a Category:
Under your new category (e.g., "Class Type"), click Add attributes.
Type in the specific attributes you want to add (e.g., "Yoga").
Click Add to add more (e.g., "Cycling").
Now, when you create a shift, especially for programs like your fitness classes, you can select "Yoga" or "Cycling" as attributes to clearly communicate the class type to your instructors.
Attributes are a flexible tool designed to help you communicate specific, important information about shifts to your staff. While not mandatory, they can significantly improve clarity and organization.
