We’ve introduced Video Responses to Attest - a new way for you to do qualitative research in the product you already know and love!
You’ll be able to collect videos from respondents in the US and UK (English), and gather even richer insight about what your consumers think.
Want to know more about getting started? Follow this guide for the details.
1. Create a new survey and add Video Response questions
You can create a Video Response Project by adding a Video Response question in your Draft Survey tab. In a Video Response project, you can add up to 4 qualifying questions, 4 video response questions and 4 other questions (open text, multiple choice, etc.). The questions can be in any order.
Video Response questions will collect videos from your respondents.
In addition to the question field for a video response question, you can also add prompts. A prompt will be shown to your respondents before they record their video and can help you get more in depth answers. We recommend up to 3 prompts per question. Create a bulleted list for your prompt by adding a dash (-) to the beginning of the line.
If you want to add more emphasis to the question or prompts, you can use formatting such as 'bold'.
Use other question types to gain more information from your respondents alongside videos, e.g. multiple choice questions. In your results, you'll be able to filter on any answer options to any of these questions. These are particularly helpful if you want to filter on specific behaviours, e.g. "how often do you do grocery shopping?" (daily, 1-2 times a week, once a week...)
Your question and prompts will look like this to a respondent...

2. Speak to the right people
You can add up to 30 respondents per project and set age, gender, region and household income quotas to make sure you talk to the right audience.
You also have 4 qualifying questions you can use to hone into your target audience behaviour/usage/attitudes. You want to get people who are happy to talk about your subject area, with confidence - it shouldn’t be a test for them!
As you'll only be adding a maximum of 30 respondents per project, you might not want to set as granular quotas as you might normally apply to your quantitative research, so think about larger buckets of your target audience. If you do set quotas, it might be common to need to relax these when the survey is live.
Video response questions are only available to English speaking respondents, who are based in the UK or the US.
3. Add your company’s privacy information to the Attest platform
The video and audio recordings that are collected through Video Responses are personally identifiable information ("PII"). We take our data protection obligations seriously at Attest and we know that you do too, so we have designed Video Responses in a way that ensures the protection of respondents’ data protection rights.
As part of this commitment, we make sure that all Video Response respondents are crystal clear about who is collecting their video and audio recordings and why, before they provide their consent to take part in the Video Response survey. For this reason, we ask you to add certain information to the Attest platform, including your company's legal name, your data protection email address and a link to your privacy policy before you launch your first Video Response survey.
Once added, this information will be used to automatically populate our standard consent wording that is shown to Video Response respondents. This process ensures that all respondents provide their fully informed consent to take part in your Video Response surveys, and avoids you having to enter this information each time you launch a new Video Response survey!
Please note that these details will need to be updated by the org admin in the Profile and Settings tab (please see image below) before you can launch any Video Response survey.
4. Purchase your Video Response survey
In the Attest platform, when you purchase your survey it will deduct 5000 credits from your account's balance (default credit pot), and go live with our audience partner.
5. Collect high-quality responses
Naturally collecting video responses might take a bit longer than qualitative research, but on average we expect these surveys to complete in a few days (this can vary depending on your applied targeting).
When it comes to ensuring high quality responses, we have automated checks in place to ensure your respondents are engaged in the survey from the start. We also have automated checks that will block any obviously unsuited videos from being submitted (e.g. nudity).
On top of that, we also perform manual checks, to ensure that the videos are of good quality (good video and sound quality). Because of these manual checks, it is possible that Video Responses are removed from your results and that your survey re-opens. We therefore recommend that you hold off on analysing your results until 2 working days after the survey is closed.
6. Analyse Video Responses in your results dashboard
On your results dashboard, you will see the results of your quantitative questions, just like for any other survey. Your video responses questions will just show an overview of the number of responses collected, but when you click "View All", you will access a dedicated page with all the video responses.
On this page you will see your videos and automated transcripts. You can play the video in the dashboard, extend to full screen and increase or decrease the playback speed.
The automated transcripts also have a search functionality, that allows you to quickly look for any key words that might have been mentioned. You are able to download the videos and copy the transcript of the responses .
You can also apply filters, demographic and question, to dive deeper into the data. To apply filters you will have to go back to your main results page. Once you have applied filters you'll see that the number of videos is fewer than if you were looking at the full project.
You also have an option to export all your results into a single Excel file which contains all the automated transcripts, so you make edits to the text separately or use the text in a different program.
7. Control the permissions of your survey
Finally, because your survey contains PII (video and audio recordings), we want you to have full control over who can see your Video Response survey. By default, only you (the owner of the survey) will be able to see the results. You can share the survey with the whole organisation, or invite specific people from your organisation (recommended).
