August enables your tenants to send payments directly from their bank account straight to yours. Think of August as simply pointing the funds in the right direction.
Do I need to connect my bank account to receive rent payments through August?
Yes, and the process couldn’t be simpler:
First, you’ll need to connect the bank account you currently use to receive your tenants’ rent payments.
Next, you’ll be prompted to complete a verification process which will allow you to be paid in-app by your tenants.
Once these steps are complete, your tenants will be able to pay rent through August and you’ll receive the money straight into your bank account, with no additional fees.
Can I see the status of my tenants’ rent payments in real-time?
Yes. The moment your tenant makes a payment, you’ll be notified that the rent has been paid and the app will update to show details of the payment
August will also send your tenants reminders when rent is due so they don’t forget.
Can I still use August if my tenants pay rent outside of the app?
Yes. The app works the same, whether your tenants pay rent through August or not.
You’ll just need to connect August to the bank account where you receive rent payments, and the app will automatically notify you when you’ve been paid.
So no matter how your tenants pay, August is able to track rent payments and remind them when it’s due.
Do I have to use the in-app rent payments feature?
No you don’t, it’s completely optional. But here are three reasons why we recommend you do:

2. Fast and fee-free: There are no additional charges to you or your tenants. You receive rent payments as quick as a bank transfer and with no transaction fees.

Is there a fee for landlords to receive rent payments through the app?
Rent payments with August are completely free. There are no charges or hidden fees for you or your tenants, so if they pay £1,000 in rent, you'll get the full amount.
Our payment system works almost exactly like bank transfers, so money is sent straight from the tenant’s account into yours.
How long does it take for rent payments to transfer to my bank account?
In most cases, instantly. Some banks may occasionally take up to 2 hours to go through, but this is uncommon.
August uses Open Banking technology to work securely with all major UK banks. Rent is paid directly from your tenant’s account to yours, just like a bank transfer - so you get the full amount fast and with no additional fees.
What happens if a tenant's payment is late?
August will notify you if rent hasn’t been paid, and your tenants will receive reminders until the payment is made.
Tenants can pay through the August or via other payment methods.
Once the payment is received, August will update automatically and notify both you and your tenants that the rent has been paid.
What if I've connected my bank account but my tenant's payment isn't shown in August?
August matches your incoming payments based on your tenancy information in the app.
As a first step, we'd encourage you to make sure the payment has definitely been made to your linked bank account. If so and it's not being shown, please contact August support via the your Profile in the app.
Can I set up automatic rent reminders for my tenants through the app?
August will automatically send your tenants in-app reminders when their next rent payment is approaching.
You’ll receive a notification when rent has been paid, so you can relax knowing it's been taken care of.
Can I track cash-in-hand rent payments in August?
Yes, you can manually add 'Paid in cash' transactions in the app.
Can I download payment reports for my records?
August lets you track your payment status, showing when and how much you were paid directly in the app.
To download full transaction details, we recommend using your banking app.
What happens if there’s a dispute with my tenants over a rent payment?
August helps improve landlord-tenant relationships by simplifying tasks like rent payments, making the process easier for everyone.
However, August does not get involved in, or take responsibility for, resolving disputes between landlords and tenants.
Can I set the rent due date or payment amount for each tenant separately?
Currently, you can set one monthly rental amount with one due date per tenancy.
If you wish to set different payment amounts and due dates for individual tenants in the August app, you will need to set them up as separate tenancies.

How do I pay my rent using the August app?
Paying rent with August couldn’t be simpler.
On the payment date, a prominent 'Pay' button will appear on the app’s home screen. Once paid, rent is sent straight to the landlord’s bank account.
Is there a transaction fee for tenants to pay rent through the app?
Rent payments with August are completely free.
Our payment system works like bank transfers, so money is sent straight from your account to your landlord’s with no hidden fees or charges.
Can I set up automatic payments so I don’t forget to pay my rent?
August doesn’t support automatic payments. To set this up, you’ll need to contact your bank directly.
What if I pay rent by standing order or Direct Debit?
You can continue using a standing order or Direct Debit for rent payments if you prefer, while still getting the benefits of using the August app.
Once your landlord receives the payment to their linked bank account, August will automatically update and show them your rent amount as ‘paid.’
What payment methods can I use to pay my rent in the August app?
August uses Open Banking technology to make payments faster and more secure by connecting directly with your bank.
When paying rent through August, the app will prompt you to select your bank. You’ll then be redirected to your banking app, where a pre-filled transaction for the rent amount and recipient will appear. Simply confirm the payment, and the money will be sent to your landlord just like a regular bank transfer. Afterwards, you’ll be automatically returned to the August app.
What is Open Banking and how does it work for payments?
When you make a payment through August, we use a technology called open banking to handle your transaction. open banking is designed to make payments easier, faster, and more secure by letting businesses interact directly with your bank, with your permission, to process payments.
August is a Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP). This basically means that instead of you having to go through a traditional process—like manually entering transaction details when transferring money through your bank app—August securely connects to your bank on your behalf. Here’s how it works:
Initiating Payment: When you're ready to pay, August asks for your permission to connect to your bank account. You give the go-ahead, and August handles the rest.
Direct Bank Transfer: With your permission, August accesses your bank and initiates a payment directly from your account. No middlemen (like card networks) are involved, so the money moves directly from your bank to the account you're paying.
Faster and Secure: Since the process happens directly between your bank and the recipient’s bank, payments are often faster. Plus, it's more secure because you're not sharing sensitive information (like card numbers) with the person you're paying.
Will I receive a notification when my rent payment is due?
Yes, August will automatically remind you when your rent due date is approaching and ready to be paid. You’ll get an in-app notification to keep you on track.
How secure is my payment information in the app?

When processing payments, you’re automatically taken outside of August to your banking app where transactions are processed via your bank.
August cannot access any of your sensitive payment information.
How do I know if my rent payment has been successfully submitted?
Since payments are processed directly through your bank, you can check your banking app to confirm if the payment went through. Alternatively, you can contact your bank’s helpline for verification.
August does not have access to your sensitive financial information.
What happens if my payment is declined or fails to process?
You can always reach out to our Customer Support team in the app if you’re having a technical issue with setting up rent payments.
In the unlikely event you’re unable to process your rent payments through August, you can still pay by setting up a manual bank transfer directly through your bank instead.
Can I view my payment history and download receipts for rent payments?
August lets you track your payment status, showing when and how much rent you paid directly in the app.

What if I pay my rent late? Will there be any late fees or penalties?
While August simplifies rent payments to improve landlord-tenant relationships, we don’t handle or resolve disputes between landlords and tenants.
