Controlled Count: One Bottle/Package Shared By Two Orders (Routine + PRN)

What to do when two active orders are pulling from the same physical bottle/package

Note: This action will break the pharmacy linkage and should only be used as a temporary workaround to maintain accurate Controlled Count deductions. Before proceeding, please consult with your pharmacy to see if they can combine the two orders into one for you.

  1. Discontinue both pharmacy orders and set inventory counts to 0 via the Controlled Count disposal process.

  2. Create one manual order with two parts:

    • Part 1 (Routine): "1 tablet by mouth four times daily"

    • Part 2 (PRN): "1 tablet every 4–6 hours as needed for pain"
      ​

  3. Go to eMAR > Controlled Count > Receive Inventory and enter the total pill count for the shared bottle.
    ​

  4. Administer in Med Pass:

    • Two cards will appear: one for routine, one for PRN

    • Both will deduct from the same shared count
