This article outlines the steps to ensure a self-administered medication is not counted in the controlled count.
Mark the order as Self-Administered
Toggle the Self-Administered setting on the medication order.
This ensures it doesn't appear in Med Pass.
Do not enter a quantity during the receive inventory step.
This prevents Controlled Count tracking from starting.
During the End of Shift, staff will see:
✅ Self-Administered Tag
⚠️ Inventory Required Tag
The Required Inventory tag can be safely bypassed and will not require a count.
Optional: Track externally
Example: “Bob – 1 bottle of Tramadol”
