This article outlines the steps to ensure a self-administered medication is not counted in the controlled count.

  1. Mark the order as Self-Administered

    • Toggle the Self-Administered setting on the medication order.

    • This ensures it doesn't appear in Med Pass.

  2. Do not enter a quantity during the receive inventory step.

    • This prevents Controlled Count tracking from starting.

  3. During the End of Shift, staff will see:

    • Self-Administered Tag

    • ⚠️ Inventory Required Tag

    • The Required Inventory tag can be safely bypassed and will not require a count.

  4. Optional: Track externally
Example: “Bob – 1 bottle of Tramadol”
