This article outlines what to do with a single medication order that comes with two packages.

Step 1: Discontinue the pharmacy order and set inventory counts to 0 via the Controlled Count disposal process.

Step 2: Manually re-enter as two separate orders:

  • Order 1: Routine dose (e.g., 1 tablet 4x/day)

  • Order 2: PRN dose (e.g., 1 tablet every 4–6 hours as needed)

Step 3: Receive inventory separately for each:

  • Enter counts from each respective package when receiving inventory in Controlled Count.

During Med Pass, two cards will display (one for the routine and one for the PRN) and deduct from their individual counts.
