Note: This workflow may not be supported in all communities. Always check and follow your community’s policy and procedures before using this workflow.

When a medication order instructs to administer a fractional dose (e.g., “Take 0.5 tablets by mouth”), it’s important to set the dose quantity in Controlled Count correctly to ensure accurate inventory tracking.

The system deducts inventory based on the dose quantity entered, so mismatches can occur if this isn’t aligned with how your community counts doses.

Determine Your Counting Method

  • If your community counts doses as whole units (e.g., 0.5 tablets = 1 dose), enter 1 as the dose quantity in the medication order.

  • If your community counts doses by fractional units (e.g., each half tablet = 0.5 dose), enter 0.5 as the dose quantity.
